MOT Your Home With An Electrical Inspection
You MOT and service your car at great cost annually, but hopefully you don’t sleep in it 7-8 hours a night. Having your electrical system tested means you can sleep easy & stay comfy at home, not in your car!

We recommend you consult our qualified electrical engineers because as technology advances there are ever changing policies. New Safety updates to the Electrical Wiring Regulations BS7671 17th Edition are complex and many electricians have been returning to College to achieve the qualification.
Why do I need a qualified electrician?
To ensure that Electrical Systems in the home are as safe as we can make them for everyone.
Domestic installations start at the suppliers meter position then through the consumer unit (Fuse Board) on to your cooker, shower, power points and lighting etc, via the fuse or circuit breaker and wiring.
Often some circuits have an RCD (Earth Fault Safety Trip). The new regulations now state that all new installations or rewires of electrical systems where cables in walls are not protected or deeper than 50mm must be protected via an RCD. One RCD cannot be used on its own so manufacturers of the Consumer Units / Distribution Boards have designed new boards with two or more RCD/RCBOs.
All things deteriorate over time and as electrical systems are used on a daily basis, unfortunately wear and tear becomes unavoidable. You should always regularly test appliances and electrical systems, the maximum time recommendation is 10 years. Older systems are often overloaded with today’s modern appliances such as showers and large cookers. Today’s conditions mean that the older fuse boards are potentially unsafe and dangerous. When electrical contractors are at work it is common to find that cables and terminals have burnt. Any electrical system over 30 years old that has not been tested is potentially dangerous.
The first idea in most peoples minds when a property fire occurs is ‘was it an electrical fault?’ Often this is the case. This is preventable by having an Electrical Installation Condition Report (previously known as a Periodic Inspection Report or P.I.R).
Although all Domestic Installers must be able to test their own installations and issue installation certificates that does not mean they are competent to carry out the works.
With a few simple precautions and checks on the business you employ to carry out your works at home, much damage and destruction caused by electrical fires can be prevented.
